About the Role
This role is a member of the Senior Management Team (SMT) within the WLGA, and it is a key role in providing strategic leadership on corporate governance and corporate policy related issues and developments as they affect local government and the Association. The postholder will work closely with council leaders, elected members and senior officers, partners and stakeholders to influence policy development and help shape implementation plans. This includes managing the strategic relationship between Welsh Government and Local Government (through the to be developed Partnership Agreement), and leading on corporate governance arrangements in councils, elections and electoral reform, civility in public life, members allowances and diversity in democracy.
The postholder will provide day to day leadership and strategic direction on issues that fall within the remit of the post and outlined in the WLGA’s Corporate Strategy and Corporate Plan, working closely with leaders and senior colleagues in councils and other public bodies across Wales, including academics and thinks tanks and in managing staff.
There is also an internal dimension to the role and the postholder will work with the Chief Executive and Deputy Chief Executive in ensuring effective operation of WLGA’s own governance arrangements, including ensuring the Constitution is fully enacted and regularly reviewed and updated as required.
