About the Role

The postholder will work proactively to support the work of the SMP team, WLGA, councils and partners in keeping updated on all policies, research and communications relating to asylum, refugees and wider migration and be responsible for sharing this information with relevant colleagues, making sure there is good communication, awareness and understanding of the policy context of the areas of work covered by the team, some of which change on a relatively frequent basis.   

The role will support the WLGA’s Communications Team in relation press inquiries on migration related issues, and will

be responsible for the outward facing communications provided by the SMP team including the website, contributing to WLGA’s social media presence, the Migration Portal and the development and circulation of a regular bulletin of issues of interest to stakeholders.  Arranging any large-scale meetings, events or conferences to be arranged by the team will be another aspect of this role, including the collating, promoting and sharing of good practice examples to proactively showcase the work of councils, including addressing and maintaining good community cohesion.

Under the direction of the SMP Manager, the postholder will lead on the arrangements required for good governance of the team and the management of the grants received that fund the SMP.  This includes engagement with Welsh Government, UK Government and team members on the Nation of Sanctuary (NoS) governance arrangements and specifically overseeing the arrangements for the NoS Partnership Board. The post holder will be required to work with the Home Office and MHCLG in meeting the reporting requirements of the grants.  In undertaking these roles, the postholder must ensure they and the team comply with will all GDPR and other mandatory requirements.

The postholder will be required to work across workstreams, also covering other colleagues, including the head of the team, as and where required.  They will also be required to work across the WLGA, engaging and updating colleagues as appropriate in pursuing the aims and objectives of the work.
