Thursday, 22 August 2024

The Welsh Local Government Association (WLGA) is celebrating the remarkable success of students across Wales as they receive their results on Thursday, August 22. This year, over 315,000 students will receive their GCSE and Level 1 and 2 Vocational and Technical qualification results, reflecting their hard work and dedication.

The results for Wales indicate that 96.6% of students have achieved grades A*-G and 62.2% achieved grades of A*-C. This year's most popular subjects are Sciences, Mathematics, English Language and Literature, and Welsh second language.

Councillor Deb Davies, WLGA spokesperson for Education said:

“On behalf of local authorities in Wales, I want to extend our heartfelt congratulations to all the students for their outstanding GCSE results. These results highlight the perseverance and hard work that each student has shown throughout their studies. As they move forward to the next stage of their education or career, we wish them the very best.

“The efforts of teachers and all those working in education have been crucial in helping students achieve their goals. Their dedication and support have been vital in creating a nurturing and motivating educational environment. We are deeply appreciative of their ongoing commitment to student success.

“If you’re considering your next steps and need guidance, please reach out to Careers Wales, your school, or college for support. There are numerous pathways to explore, and assistance is available to help you navigate this significant moment in your life.”
